Highlands to embark onto our lodge on the crater rim just before dusk
for dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa / Serena / Wildlife lodge
Day
4 Ngorongoro
Just after breakfast, we descend into the crater floor for a half day
crater tour. Ngorongoro Crater is a complete ecosystem and considered
as the eight wonder of the world. Ngorongoro Crater is a complete ecosystem
and considered as the eight wonder of the world. Ngorongoro is found in
the "Land of the Giant Craters." This caldera is 14 miles (22.5
km) across at its widest point. It is 2000 ft (610 m) deep. It grew to
be this large by sinking of the caldera floor. The caldera floor is very
level and holds a lake. Streams run down the caldera walls into the lake.
Ngorongoro is full of pastureland of red and white clover. Over 75,000
wild animals live in this caldera., Our drive will include searching for
the rhino, elephants, hippos, cheetah, wildbeest, lions and plentiful
of other predators and their prey. We return to our lodge for a delicious
lunch before driving to a nearby maasai village where we will happily
enjoy the maasai culture and livelihood. We return to the lodge just before
dusk. Dinner and overnight at Ngorongoro Sopa / Serena / Wildlife Lodge
Day
5 Ngorongoro - Serengeti
After breakfast drive to Serengeti with a visit to the Olduvai Gorge .
Olduvai Gorge which is considered as the origin of mankind; this is where
the famous Mr & Mrs Leakey discovered the 1.75 million-year-old remains
of Australopithecus boisei ('Zinjanthropus') and Homo habilis which suggest
that our species first evolved in this area. We arrive at our lodge in
Serengeti in time for lunch. During the mid hours of the afternoon, we
depart for an afternoon game drive in Serengeti National Park before returning
to our lodge just before dusk for dinner and overnight at Serengeti Sopa
/ Serena / Wildlife Lodge
Day
6 Serengeti
After breakfast, we depart for a morning game drive in this magnificent
national park. Our drive will include the search for leopards, lions,
cheetah, hippos and many other animals that will be happy to welcome us
to their kingdom. The area is the starting point for one of the great
wonders of the world: the Serengeti annual migration. Towards the end
of May when the grass becomes dry and exhausted, the wildebeest start
to mass in huge armies. Lion, cheetah, hyena and hunting dog follow the
wildebeest and zebra, making sure that only the fittest survive. All is
far from peaceful, for it is the rutting season and each male tries to
establish a stamping ground. For centuries, the vast wilderness of the
Serengeti Plains remained virtually unhabitated but about hundred years
ago the nomadic Maasai came down from the north with their cattle. We
carry packed lunch in order to make the best of the day. Dinner and overnight
at Serengeti Serena / Sopa / Wildlife lodge.
Day
7 Serengeti - Arusha - Departure
Today we depart for an early morning game drive which will allow us to
see the animals especially the cats active. We return to our lodge for
breakfast before being transferred to the airstrip for connection to a
morning flight to Arusha departing at 1045hrs. Upon landing at the Arusha
airport, you will be met and transferred to the Arusha Hotel for lunch
and safari debriefing before being assisted in connecting to afternoon
shuttle bus to Nairobi or either continue with an extension to Zanzibar
island.
